York Dance Works & Riedel Dance Theater

Had the great opportunity of experiencing and capturing two dance companies recently. York Dance Work and Riedel Dance Theater, two very talented choreographers head the two companies. If you ever have the time and enjoy dance please look into these two fine companies.

York Dance Works www.yorkdanceworks.com
LUCY YORK STRUEVER (managing director and artistic director) graduated with Honors in Economics from Skidmore College. She began studying Ballet when she was seven years old, two years after she began playing the violin. She starting acting in community theatre productions when she was eleven years old and has been performing ever since. She studied theatre at the Baltimore School for the Arts, while continuing her dance studies, which now included modern and composition, at the nearby Peabody Preparatory. In high school and college, she had the pleasure of spending some significant chunks of time traveling and studying in Nepal, Chile and throughout Europe. At Skidmore, she had the good fortune to study dance with guest teachers Robert Battle, and Doug Varone and his Company. Other influential teachers have been Milton Myers, Mark Dendy, and Carol Bartlett. In New York, Lucy has been involved in several projects associated with York Dance Works, danced with Pi Dance Theatre, and acted in several plays. Most recently she appeared as a dancer in the upcoming film “The Audition” .

Riedel Dance Theater www.riedeldancetheater.org/
Riedel Dance Theater aims to engage, to entertain, and to inspire the public through its dances. Established in 2003 by Choreographer and Artistic Director, Jonathan Riedel, the company is guided by this purpose in its performances, teaching, and outreach activities. We explore both timeless and innovative approaches to storytelling, drawing upon the emotional power of movement, music, and drama to bring our stories to life. The result: dance that is visually striking, innately musical, and infectiously expressive.

A resolution 3 months later

I had been for the longest time saying I would use this blogger page, but constantly I find myself too busy to post. Really don't know how some of these other cats do it? Must be the fact that most of them don't have a wife and three kids and all that comes with it? Well guess what? I'm going to make the time now. Along with all the other social networks I am apart of. I'm thinking of finding all those addresses and posting them here tomorrow. Until then good evening.

Mrs. Pleasant Vintage Photoshoot One

Well weeks maybe even a month or so ago I ran a bulletin looking for individuals who would be interested in modeling for Mrs. Pleasant Vintage clothing. The response to the bulletin was great and we are working on a second shoot when it warms up a little. It was an interesting change from the live show stuff I do primarily, but still challenging. We didn't have the budget to really scout locations or rent out a studio. I promised Emily of Mrs. Pleasant Vintage that I would get her something she would be able to use. I kind of already had my mind set on what it was I was shooting for... trying my best to showcase the clothing more so than the scenary. I would REALLY love your feedback good or bad all crticism is constructive in my mind.

I'm learning everyday... even when I think I know everything. - Ed Marshall

Hey everyone,
I know that I must write like once a month and I have lost some of my subscribers. For those of you that have hung in there with me I just want to say thank you very much. I'm actually in the middle of a few things trying to make two deadlines today. (I'm just a lil motivated ah huh!) So today's blog is going to be a quickie again cause it's a continuation of my last. Got an email from the folks at URB today and along with this months issue. There is also this you folks can check out. http://www.urb.com/media/images/afropunk/

I would just like to say thank you to EVERYONE who has ever wished me well or told me I could do whatever I set my mind to. And of course thanks to URB and the Afropunk crew! There is lot's more going on and I promise to keep you all posted.
Hope everyone is having an excellent Wednesday!
